A security expert recently reminded people that the Preferred Networks List Bug which was identified in 2004 has only ever been addressed by Microsoft. All other mobile OSes, from Apple to BlackBerry can accidentally expose their PNL to an eavesdropper who can then spoof it. If you like setting up autoconnect on your devices you might want to double check the name of your active connections occasionally; if you are connected to your home WiFi while you are out you might have a problem. "Security expert Raul Siles has warned that years after it was first identified, the Preferred Networks List (PNL) Wi-Fi bug remains unaddressed on many an iPhone, Android phone, and Windows or BlackBerry handset."

The Samsung system
The Samsung system software[Samsung Control Center], on my laptop can not keep my wifi and bluetooth antennas turned off ! I have become so fustrated with my wifi being turned on and auto logged in at my coffee house, that I have had to disable the wifi in Windows! The bluetooth, which is not paired with any device, does no present such a problem! My biggest consern is the wifi, as with each new connection a user makes with wifi, that connection is rememberd in windows, and the default is always to auto-login, the next time the computer sees the wifi network! Beacuse this happens while the Samsung is booting, I can not intercede, until after the wifi logon is already auto completed! This is a problem, as most, if not all new laptops, do not have a hardware wifi on and off switch, as in the good old days of my celeron M based laptop! This could also be a problem with air travel, as it takes some time on the Samsung to shut off the wifi, through the Samsung system software, the permissions that Samsung set up with its Samsung Control Center software, requires me to first give the software permission to run, then it takes a whole for the program to load, and the wifi/bluetooth/everything-Including-the Kitchen-Sink Samsung controll pansl to appear, and me sliding the sofrware Wifi switch off! Samsung and Toshiba have some of the worst system software, of this type, and Microsoft along with its laptop OEM partners, should come to some agreement to make Wifi/bluetooth/ETC. a stsndard part of the OS with a standard OS user interface for this basic laptop function! My ASUS has a little balloon type window that pops up, with no delay with a hotkey press, and presents me with Icons, for wifi, wimax, and Widi, one click and the respective antenna is toggled on and off!
The hotkey press on my Samsung just initates the same slow program responce of approve program run, wait, switch of, wait some more! My Toshiba [Value Added package] software, which acts the same as the Samsung Control Center software, is just a pile of crap also, in fact the Toshaba wifi/etc software stopped working properly a few years ago!!
