CES 2013: Corsair Raptor Yields Apter Adapters

Corsair purchased German peripheral company, Raptor Gaming, in the middle of last August. Today Corsair announced the availability of a whole line of Raptor products to complement their well-known Vengeance series. Now Corsair has two whole product lines to populate with goodies.
The Raptor line currently consists of PC gaming keyboards, mice, and headsets. The line should be available immediately in both the United States as well as Raptor’s home country of Germany.
The main advantage of the Raptor product line is that they contain “more conventional materials”, as per Corsair’s description, to broaden their price spectrum. As an example, while the Vengeance line of keyboards is mechanical, the Raptor should be based on membrane-dome technology found in the common keyboard.
If you are not in the US or Germany, other regions should be added within the next 6 months.

Corsair upgraded their Vengeance line of products with the Vengeance K95 Gaming Keyboard, Vengeance M95 and M65 mice, Vengeance MM600 Gaming Mat, and driver enhancements for the Vengeance 200 Wireless Gaming Headset.

The Vengeance K95 Gaming Keyboard is an evolutionary step in the growth of Corsair's award-winning keyboard line. Corsair used the K90 keyboard as a foundation, and added a brushed-aluminum chassis and Cherry MX key mechanical switches on all keys. Additionally, the K95 keyboard features 18 programmable macro keys and a 1ms reporting rate.

Corsair further enhanced the original K90's design by added individually back-lit keys with adjustable light intensity. The keyboard back-lighting can be macro-controlled and is adjustable to four pre-set levels.
The Vengeance K95 Gaming Keyboard will be available at a retailer near you in January at an MSRP of $149.99.
The Vengeance Gaming Mouse - Enhanced
Building on a successful design, Corsair pushed the envelope with the Vengeance M95 and M65 Gaming Mice. Both are encased in stylishly designed uni-body aluminum chassis and feature the Avago Technologies ADNS-9800 LaserStream™ gaming sensor. With this sensor, both mice boast a maximum tracking resolution of 8200 DPI more than enough to defeat any electronic foe.

The Vengeance M95 Gaming Mouse has been fully optimized for MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online) gamers with 15 intuitively placed, programmable buttons. Further, the M95's on-board memory can store up to six macro profiles.

The M95 Gaming Mouse also includes a fully back-lit mouse-wheel house area and back-lit buttons. The Vengeance M95 is available in both Gunmetal Black and Arctic White colors.

The Vengeance M65 Gaming Mouse was designed with FPS (First Person Shooter) gamers in mind with a programmable Sniper button, instantly adjustable DPI, and adjustable center of gravity. The Sniper button is the red thumb button on the left side of the mouse, placed for easy access for instant toggle action.

Vengeance MM600 Dual-sided Gaming Mat
Corsair designed the MM600 Dual-side Gaming Mat to appeal to many types of gamers. One side of the mat has a more textured design for superior mouse control, while the other side is a smooth texture for high-speed gliding. The MM600 is designed with a 3mm piece of aircraft-grade aluminum at its heart to provide a rigid surface and is encased in a specially designed polymer for superior performance and longevity. Additionally, Corsair includes non-slip rubber corners on the mat so that the surface stays in place during those critical fragging moments.
The Vengeance MM600 Dual-sided Gaming Mat will be available at a retailer near you in January at an MSRP of $39.99.
Vengeance 2000 Wireless Gaming Headset Driver Update
To further enhance you audio gaming experience, Corsair will be releasing driver support for the Dolby 2.0 Headphone spec on the Vengeance 2000 Wireless Gaming Headset series. With this updated support, the Vengeance 2000 series will fully support audio delivery in full 7.1-channel surround sound. Corsair expects to release this update sometime in February.

Ultrabooks 2.0
Intel is a yearly presence at CES and typically have a few interesting things to talk about. Last year we got to see Will.I.Am on stage telling us all about how the Ultrabook has changed his artistic life. Oddly enough, things have not changed dramatically for the company. Ultrabooks have inherited the latest Ivy Bridge processors which were released last Spring. Medfield is still the primary cell phone processor for Intel.
The first area they covered is the cellphone market. Medfield is still the go-to processor and Intel claims that it has better performance and battery life than even the latest Qualcomm products. Intel is introducing a new reference phone for emerging markets around the world codenamed Lexington. Based on the Z2420 and the XMM6265 modem, this budget smartphone will be Android based with certain optimizations instituted by Intel in collaboration with Google.
Intel has achieved more wins throughout the next few months. Acer, Safaricom, and Lava will all be announcing new smart phones based on Intel silicon. Details of these products will be released later in the quarter.
Medfield will be replaced by Clover Tail+ and then further on with their next gen 22 nm product.
Connected Data's Transporter spotted in the wild at CES

At CES we got a look at some real Transporter hardware in action, and got a few of our questions answered. First some pics:
Now for the new stuff we learned:
- There is now a Windows as well as a Mac desktop / laptop client.
- Shared folders can be mounted and sync'd by remote users who do not have a Transporter on their network.
- Will be available in 1TB, 2TB, and no drive configurations (but you must install your own for the Transporter to function, as it has no internal storage capability).
- WiFi capability (in addition to GigE) will *possibly* be available in two speed grade options (i.e. 1x1 or 2x2), the faster grade carrying an additional cost.
The rest of the details on the Transporter are in our last post covering it. We look forward to testing one of these shortly and will report back.

CES 2013 Video: ASUS Transformer All-in-One Merges Windows 8 and Android

There is a new category of computer coming out this year that revolves around tablets that are bigger than you might be comfortable with. We saw the first example of this with the Lenovo IdeaCentre Horizon launched yesterday in the form of a 27-in AIO with a 2 hour battery life. ASUS was demonstrating another one they are calling the Transformer AIO that actually goes a step further by combining standard Core processor technology in the base and Tegra 3 technology in the display.
The AIO is an 18.4-in 1080p system with standard Intel Core i5 and Core i7 platforms running the full version of Windows 8. However, the user can push a button on the side of the system to switch on the fly between Windows 8 and an Android system powered by NVIDIA's Tegra 3. Even better, you can remove the display from the Transformer AIO (hence the name) and use it as a rather large tablet with 4-5 hours of battery life AND you can stream the Windows 8 system to it via wireless display technology.

CES 2013 Video: ASUS VG248QE 144 Hz 24-in and MX299Q 29-in 21:9 2560x1080 Monitors

ASUS continues its push into the monitor market with a pair of new models debuting at CES 2013. First up is the VG248QE, a 24-in 1080p monitor that runs at a refresh rate of 144 Hz and supports NVIDIA's 3D Vision 2 and a 1ms gray-to-gray response time. These are TN panels so you might be surprised to see they are going to priced quite reasonably in the $399 range. The display also includes a new ASUS technology called GamePlus that embeds crosshairs for games into the OSD on the monitor to offer additional options in troublesome 3D modes.
The second new monitor we saw was the MX299Q, a 2560x1080 monitor in the exciting new 21:9 form factor. These allow developers, traders or just every day users to have two "full screen" applications open at the same time without the need for multiple displays. The MX299Q will also include Bang & Olufsen powered speakers.

GIGABYTE Dual Thunderbolt Motherboards Debut 4K Resolution on Intel Collage Technology at CES 2013

Intel has found a way to emulate 4k display resolution using its on chip graphics and Gigabyte's Dual Thunderbolt technology. The display at CES demonstrated Dual Thunderbolt connectors splitting a 4k signal onto four different 1920 x 1200 displays and successfully displaying every pixel of content as if it was on a single 4k monitor, barring bezels of course. Gigabyte expects to have drivers available for owners of Z77X-UP5 TH or Z77X-UP4 TH motherboards by the end of the month so you will be able to try this for yourself in the very near future. There is one big difference between this technology and NVIDIA Surround and EyeFinity, since the graphics are provided by the HD4000 GPU you are not going to be able to effectively play the majority games at these resolutions, though it is still nice to see Intel present a solution for HTPCs and similarly purposed systems.
Las Vegas, NV, January 7th, 2013 – GIGABYTE TECHNOLOGY Co.
