PC Perspective Office Tour - Feb 6th, 2012

Subject: Editorial | February 6, 2012 - 11:00 PM |
Tagged: pcper, office tour

Since we started talking about plans for the brand new PC Perspective office on the podcast I had some requests to keep readers in the loop as to how construction and installation were progressing.  While I forgot to take a video before the walls came down, Ken and I stopped running Cat 6 cable long enough to take a short video and walk you through where we stand today.

You won't see much but some networking, drywall, ceiling and electrical work being done but if you want an idea of how the process is all starting, this is first look at our new studio and testing office!

If you have any questions or thoughts, feel free to leave them in the comments section below.

Win a Free Drobo Storage Device at PC Perspective!!

Tagged: pcper, giveaway, drobo, contest

UPDATE: Just a couple more days left on this contest - we are closing entries for this Drobo at 12:01am EST on September 26th!

So you know here at PC Perspective we are big fans of backing up your data.  And one such brand of devices that helps users do that efficiently and safely is Drobo.  We are still working on our Drobo FS review here internally, but should probably check out Allyn's previous review of the 8-bay Drobo Pro to get an idea of the technology and reliability of Drobo.

But, back to the point, did we say you could win a brand new Drobo for yourself?  Yes, you can get your hands on a free Drobo FS unit by simply filling out a form and using your Twitter and Facebook accounts to spread the good word of data security!!

drobo3.png

What do you have to do?  It's a simple three step process:

  1. Follow @Drobo on Twitter and send a message to all your friends with the hash tags #drobo and #pcper telling them about your love of both!
    1. OR .... hit up Drobo on their Facebook page and leave a note on YOUR wall for your friends on the same topic - backing up your data and how Drobo gets it done.
  2. Finally, fill out the form at http://bit.ly/pcperdrobo to finish the job.

You will be emailed a coupon for a Drobo even if you don't win the free one, so you can still get something out this deal, right?!?

Our thanks go out to Drobo for the donations and to our loyal reader base for support PC Perspective over the years!

PC Perspective Hardware Workshop Video

If you weren't at Quakecon 2011 last weekend and didn't get a chance to watch our live stream of the event, you can still catch it right here.  What did we do at 3rd Annual PC Perspective Hardware Workshop?  We gave out a TON of hardware and prizes thanks to our many sponsors (listing here) and also showed off some great case mods, some new technology including a 5 display capable Galaxy graphics card and of course, a demo from NVIDIA's own Tom Petersen.

Again, a HUGE thanks goes out to our sponsors for helping out with the event, providing interesting things to show off and prizes for all the gamers.  We had a blast as did the 1100+ attendees and 2000+ viewers live online that day!! A big thanks specifically goes out to Corsair, NVIDIA and OCZ for exceptional help getting it all together!

Here is to next year...or who knows...maybe even sooner...?  ;)

Computex: We are on our way! Better late than never...

It is that time of year again where the staff at PC Perspective wades through the moist air of Taipei, Taiwan to bring you the latest news, videos and updates from the world of technology and computing hardware.  This marks my 10th appearance on the island of Taiwan, but Ken's first so it should be an interesting experience for both of us.

computex01.png

Yes, this scary girl is here again too.

This year we have a surprising amount of expected hardware to investigate starting with an onslaught of AMD-based technology.  The AMD 990FX chipset will be out and about in force from the likes of ASUS, MSI, ECS and others while the Fusion APUs will be flaunted in notebooks and likely even some "surprise" Llano designs.  Intel's Z68 chipset, though already launched, will still be a focus but the company will surprise many with a dramatic move into the world of mobile computing with the Atom line.

You should of course keep an eye on the home page here at pcper.com but also feel free to bookmark the URL http://pcper.com/computex where all of our Computex-specific news will be filtered to.

Temperatures are high but so is the excitement!!
