AMD Never Settles: Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon Bundled

So when AMD reloaded their Never Settle bundles, they left an extra round in the barrel.

Some of my favorite games were given to me in a bundle with some piece of computer hardware. You might remember from the PC Perspective game night that I am a major fan of the Unreal Tournament franchise. My first Unreal Tournament game was an unexpected surprise when I purchased my first standalone GPU. My 166MHz Pentium computer also came bundled with Mechwarrior 2 and Wipeout.

As we discussed, AMD considers bundle-offers as a way to keep the software industry rolling forward. The quantity and quality of games which participate in the recent Never Settle bundles certainly deserve credit as it is due. Bioshock: Infinite is a game that just about every PC gamer needs to experience, and there are about a half-dozen other great titles as a part of the promotion depending upon which card or cards you purchase.

As it turns out, AMD negotiated with Ubisoft and added Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon to their Never Settle bundle. The coolest part is that AMD will retroactively email codes for this new title to anyone who has redeemed a Never Settle: Reloaded code.

So if you have ever Reloaded your Never Settle in the past, check your email as apparently you can Never Settle your reloads again.

FarCry 3 Game Bundle Now With OCZ Vector SSDs

If you purchase a 256GB or 512GB OCZ Vector Series drive before July 14th of 2013 you will get a free downloadable copy of Far Cry 3, to a maximum of two copies.  Allyn was more than impressed with this drive, finishing off his review with the statement that "The OCZ Vector astonished me with its throughput, sheer IOPS performance, and low latency", with the only negative comment involving the drives inability to do household chores.  They are not the least expensive drives on the market but they are some of the fastest and they come with a 5 year warranty as well.

FarCry follows the Star Trek rule, only it is the odd ones to watch

While the rule of thumb for the original Star Trek movies was to only watch the even numbered sequels, it seems that odd numbers are the way to go with Far Cry.  While the second instalment was a bit of a let down, the third has come much closer to capturing a "Skyrim with Guns" feel.  Techgage takes you on a brief look at what they learned in the 48 hours it took them to complete the game as well as the technical challenges they encountered along the way.  Read on if you don't have the game yet, or just fire it up and play through on your own or with friends.

"When Far Cry first brought us to its shores in 2004, PC gamers were given a real treat: open-ended gameplay and a highly-detailed world. Far Cry 2 brought us an even bigger world, but never hit cruising speed with most people. Does Far Cry 3 have what it takes to return us to paradise, or should it have remained at sea?"

Far Cry 3 Gets Eye Patch, er, a Patch for Your Eyes

Have I ever told you the definition of insanity? Apparently Ubisoft defined it as barraging their players with HUD messages. Their players acknowledged this loudly enough that the developer added options to hide certain messages in the Gameplay Settings page.

Update 1.04 is, aptly named, the fourth update to Far Cry 3 on the PC since its launch earlier this month. This update has, by far, the largest changelog of any previous update. Several bugs have been fixed with a particular focus on cleaning up multiplayer glitches and stability. As previously stated, the patch also allows the user to further customize their single player experience to only allow the game to provide them with certain onscreen messages.

Also added is support for downloadable content in single player. While I have not been paying too much attention to the matter, no mention about single player DLC for the PC has ever crossed my path. Being that they added support for it in this patch it would seem obvious, now, that Ubisoft plans on expanding the single player experience with bonus content.

The full patch notes are available after the break.

"It's better than Far Cry 2"

Being better than Far Cry 2 is not a difficult achievement but absolutely necessary if you want to entice PC gamers to pick up the third instalment and according to Rock, Paper, SHOTGUN that bar has been surpassed.  While they are not in love with the mystic portions of the main quest they were fans of the dialogue and the fact that you are not a silent protagonist.  While you start with a single gun there is no reason you can't kill and skin a goat to make yourself another holster so that you can carry a second.  You'll have to wait a while longer to blow up crocodiles with claymores for yourself but in the mean time you can live vicariously through this review.

"It’s also layered in skill trees, and a (largely superfluous) inventory, to make this game feel like it has a lot more going on than some other open-world shooters we could mention. The result is a little Skyrim-with-guns, yes, but in Skyrim I never caused two bandit jeeps to crash into each other, only to set fire to half of the jeep passengers with the flamethrower, and watch the other half be eaten alive by giant lizards. No, sir."

Can't Wait for Far Cry 3? Like Minecraft? Read On.

Ubisoft crafted an olive branch for their PC gaming fans, and Mojang’s fans too…

Far Cry 3 might be coming to North America in early December but Ubisoft thinks you might need something to tide you over until then. Of course, Assassin’s Creed III could have held us over if it were launching alongside its console brethren but - oh never mind. I guess I should cut Ubisoft some slack. They probably did not have a whole lot of Olive planks for the Olive branches. I mean they probably had to spend four on the crafting table alone and then there was that creeper so Ubisoft totally needed that wood sword.

Lost? Oh! Where are my manners?

In an effort to promote the release of Far Cry 3 for the PC - a simultaneous release with the other platforms - Ubisoft created a Minecraft mod team. The order: create a map in Minecraft themed like Far Cry 3.

Crysis2.jpg

Get my agent! I want to star in an Indie PC cross-over mod too! One with pigs!

Machine for Pigs? I’m having a hard time remembering that… but if you say it is popular…

The team consists of Michael Lambert with Axel Janssen and Yohann Delcourt providing texture work. Michael, known as Sacr3 to the Minecraft community, made a name for himself with his large city build, Novax. He replied to a comment on his World Trade Center video three months ago when confronted about his activity:

I'm working on something big right now, i'll get back´╗┐ to this map once i'm done my other project.

I would say so.

So I buried the lead long enough - what is the mod about? The environment is themed and textured based on the aesthetic of the game. Accompanying the custom map are a new set of weapons and tools with themes rooted in the game. You will be able to find Vaas, Citra, and the protagonist Jason all in Minecraft style along with 50 Easter Eggs. If anything it is an interesting tactic to draw brand recognition especially with such a PC-centric strategy. I am guessing Ubisoft knows where their brand has been tarnished most and especially wants to recover it with the Far Cry property. Well done Ubisoft.

The mod is expected to be released on October 26 at their official Far Cry website.

Far Cry 3 gets a trailer and release date, first unofficially and then officially

Subject: General Tech | February 15, 2012 - 03:22 PM |
Tagged: gaming, far cry, far cry 3, ubisoft

If you follow the information from the just released official trailer of Far Cry 3 then the date you await is the 7th of September.  The leaked trailer which arrived 5 hours ago stated a date of the 6th, which was almost the only difference between the two releases.  Rock, Paper, SHOTGUN has both the trailers if you want to take a peek.

RPS_far-cry-33333.jpg

"This is the ‘official’ version of the Far Cry 3 trailer, which is almost exactly the same as the one that leaked earlier on today. I actually felt bad about linking to that one, but we’re all about disclosure here at RPS: whether you’re Ubisoft or John Walker, we’ll get to the heart of the story, no matter what. So, tell us Ubisoft: why did the leaked trailer have a Sept 6 release date when this one says Sept the 7th?"
