Corsair has announced the HXi Series, successor to the well regarded HX Series of power supplies.

The three models in HXi Series are the 750 watt HX750i, 850 watt HX850i, and 1000 watt HX1000i, and each of these power supplies boast 80 PLUS Platinum efficiency certification and feature a fully modular design. Corsair is emphasising the quality of the power delivery with this release, as the HXi Series is constructed from premium components including 100% Japanese capacitors.

The units feature a “Zero RPM” fan mode that only allows the fan to spin under heavier loads, allowing operation at low and medium loads to be “virtually silent”. And when the fan is required cooling is handled by 140mm model with a fluid dynamic bearing for quiet operation. Additionally, the HXi power supplies implement Corsair’s Link software technology for device monitoring and customization.

Here are the specs from Corsair:

  • 80 PLUS Platinum efficiency
  • Fully modular DC cable set
  • 100% Japanese electrolytic capacitors rated at 105°c
  • Zero-RPM fan mode for virtually silent operation at low and medium loads
  • Corsair Link support for monitoring efficiency, voltage, power output, temperature, and fan speed plus user customizable setting of rail modes and fan speed
  • Fluid dynamic bearing fan
  • Continuous power rated at 50° Celsius

The HXi Series will be backed by a 7-year warranty and will be available in August with the HX750i listed at $169.99, the HX850i at $189.99, and the HX1000i coming in at a suggested $229.99.

Introduction and Features

Corsair announced their latest flagship power supply, the 1,500 watt AX1500i Digital ATX PSU earlier this year at CES. We recently received a retail unit to review and have spent the past week putting it through our suite of tests. The new AX1500i Digital proved to be a very interesting power supply and brings not one, but several outstanding features to the high-end enthusiast market. Over time, we all grow numb to marketing terms like “most technologically advanced”, “state-of-the-art”, “ultra-stable”, “super-high efficiency”, etc., but in the case of the AX1500i Digital PSU, we have seen these claims come to life before our eyes.

2-AX1500i-Banner.jpg

Right out of the box, the AX1500i Digital power supply is capable of delivering up to 1,500 watts of continuous DC power (125 Amps on the +12V rail). If that is not impressive enough, the PSU can do it while operating on 115 VAC mains and with an ambient temperature up to 50°C (internal case temperature). This beast was made for multiple power-hungry graphic adapters and overclocked CPUs.

The Corsair AX1500i is one of the very first power supplies to obtain 80 Plus Titanium certification, which requires a PSU to operate with at least 90% efficiency between 10% and 100% load, and with at least 94% efficiency at 50% load.

The AX1500i is a digital power supply, which offers two distinct advantages. First, the AX1500i incorporates a Digital Signal Processor (DSP) to provide digitally-controlled power. This enables the PSU to deliver extremely tight voltage regulation over a wide range of loads. And second, the AX1500i features Corsair Link, which enables the PSU to be connected to the PC’s motherboard (via USB) for real-time monitoring (efficiency and power usage) and control (over-current protection and fan speed profiles).

Silent operation (zero-rpm fan mode up to ~30% load) might not be at the top of your feature list when shopping for a 1,500 watt PSU, but the AX1500i can do it thanks to high efficiency.

The updated Hydro Series coolers, the H80i and H100i both feature all new tubing that might not be much more flexible than the previous models but offers improved flow rates.  As well these coolers are now able to be controlled via Corsair's Link technology, allowing you to either set the LED colour displayed or to use it as a real time temperature indicator.  As you would suspect the H100i is the larger of the two units, the H80i being 120 x 38 x 152mm and the H100i measuring 275 x 120mm x  27mm with both supporting up to four fans via the Link software.  [H]ard|OCP saw an improvement from the previous models which you can read about in their full review.

H_CORSAIRi.jpg

"Corsair updates its aging H80 and H100 performance liquid CPU coolers, with the new H80i and H100i models. Changes include a new cold plate design, smooth outer diameter no-kink tubing designed to further limit evaporation, and newer designed fans claiming better static pressures, and quieter operation."

The second coming of the AX1200, now with software controls

Corsair's new AX1200i PSU is 80 Plus Platinum rated and sports Link monitoring and control software as you might remember from Lee's review.  On the off chance that you would like a second opinion about the PSU, [H]ard|OCP recently published their own review.  Just like Lee they were impressed with the voltage regulation, efficiency, and DC Output quality though they were less impressed with the noise they saw during their Transient Load Test.  They also questioned the use of the Link tweaking software and while the final verdict was positive in some ways they didn't feel this PSU was as true successor to the stellar AX1200 released almost two years ago.

H_Corsair_ax1200i.jpg

"Corsair has a refresh today that talks to its high end line of high power PSUs. The AX1200i comes in touting "platinum" efficiency and "an unprecedented level of monitoring and performance customization." How does the AX1200i perform out-of-the-box and does it actually bring value at its huge price?"
