Summary

Readers have been asking for the release of an AGP version of the NVIDIA 6600GT GPU since its initial release in PCI Express format.  Today NVIDIA is releasing just that: a $200-250 video card with great performance for the AGP market.  This page is a quick summary review of the card, but if you would like the entire, in-depth review of this product, just click here to move on, or use the "Expert" link above.

Though the 6600GT GPU is actually a native PCI Express chip, NVIDIA is able to easily move it to the AGP format by using their HSI "bridge" chip, that converts PCIe signals to AGP and vise versa.  These cards run relatively cool compared to the the 6800 series and have exhibited some great overclocking potential.  But, let's take a look at how the 660GT compares to the ATI Radeon 9800 Pro card (the similarly priced card for AGP motherboards).

The ~$225 price tag on this card looks pretty good after seeing these benchmarks, there is no denying that.  ATI currently has no other product to compete in this market than the 9800 Pro we used here.  The X700 line that ATI created to go against the 6600 series in PCIe format isn't ready for AGP yet, and I don't know if ATI has any plans to bring it out period.  For the time being, NVIDIA has the best card available for those of you with AGP motherboards and don't want to spend a fortune on a new PCIe setup or flagship card.
