:: PC Perspective . Storage . Western Digital 7200RPM Caviar Black and RE4 Series 2TB Hard Drive Review . Introduction
The PC Perspective Podcast is your weekly stop for the latest PC tech news and reviews! Give it a listen!
IntroductionEarlier this week, Western Digital announced two new additions to their 2 TB product lines. These new models nudge up the capacity of their Caviar Black and RE (not REx-GP) lines, bringing 2 TB capacities to every series except for their Blue line. Western Digital passed us a few samples to check out, so we pushed hard to get results out to our readers.
Western Digital now provides four different 2 TB offerings to choose from. I maintain my prediction that we still have some time before hard drives ship at greater than 2 TB capacities. As I've stated before, many widely used operating systems are unable to handle more than 2^32 sectors (2048 GB), so drive manufacturers will likely stop for a breather at the 2.0 TB mark. Enough meandering from me. Lets get into the benches!
A dynamic duo of storage goodness attached to our testbed.
