:: PC Perspective . Graphics Card . NVIDIA GeForce 6600GT Performance . Summary
The PC Perspective Podcast is your weekly stop for the latest PC tech news and reviews! Give it a listen!
SummaryThough NVIDIA announced the 6600-series of graphics cards last month, not until today were you able to get actual benchmark numbers from the media and press. The wait seems to have been worth it though as the NVIDIA 6600GT card we received performed leaps above the competition. If you'd like to jump right to the detailed review of this card, with more information regarding the technology and more benchmarks, please skip ahead.
The main features of this card include the lack of a large or loud cooling system and the lack of any kind of external power requirements which all the previous NVIDIA cards have required. The 6600-series is strictly for PCI Express users right now, with AGP models coming down the pipe in the near future. Numbers speak louder than words (or something like that) so let's go right to the benchmarks.
In Doom 3 performance, the ATI X600XT doesn't really stand a chance agains the card that NVIDIA designed, in part, specifically for the game.
Even the older Unreal Tournament 2004 game shows that the new 6600GT is an outstanding performer. With a $200 price tag, the 6600GT is going to be one of the best deals in graphics cards in a long time, with little competition from ATI available any time soon in this price range. NVIDIA has taken yet another step in the right direction with this new graphics processor and once it's available to the masses in both PCIe and AGP form, I think this card will be flying off store shelves.
