Introduction and Specifications

I can remember back in early 2000, when a consumer thought about ASUS, they were thinking about motherboards and only motherboards.  It wasn't until 2003 that we first reviewed a different ASUS product; it was a Radeon 9800XT graphics card.   Today you will find ASUS in brick-and-mortar stores like Best Buy selling things called Eee PCs in a market known as netbooks.  What?

ASUS has continued to expand its array of product offerings including sound cards, mobile phones, barebones servers and, as the title of this review might lead you to conclude, LCD monitors.  Today we are going to take a look at the largest ASUS-branded monitor available, the VW266H that comes in at just under 26-in.

Let's take a quick look at the specifications before jumping into the rest of the review:

You can get a good feel for what to expect on this display by looking that ASUS-provided table above.  For one, this "26-in" monitor is in fact only 25.5-in diagonally measured.  This is a trend we are finding more and more common on LCD monitors and LCD televisions as you will likely see things like "47-in class" displays listed now that indicate a slightly smaller overall screen size.  The resolution of 1920x1200 is matched with a 2ms gray-to-gray response time rating and a large assortment of available inputs for a monitor at this price.
