:: PC Perspective . Graphics Card . eVGA e-GeForce 6800 GT Video Card Review . Summary
The PC Perspective Podcast is your weekly stop for the latest PC tech news and reviews! Give it a listen!
SummaryThe retail versions of NVIDIA's GeForce 6800-series of graphics cards are finally hitting store and online shelves. The first review we have for you from this line of cards is the eVGA e-GeForce 6800 GT card, based of course on the NVIDIA 6800 GT chip.
This card is NVIDIA's upper-mid range card, with only one other product above it in terms of performance. The 6800 GT and 6800 Ultra differ only in the clock speeds that they run at and power they require, but are otherwise the same video logic. The target MSRP from NVIDIA is $399 for this card, though until saturation of the market is closer, you'll be paying a bit of a premium for any 6800-series or X800-series card.
The included extras in the box are the standards; power adapter cable, DVI-to-VGA adapter, S-Video cable for TV out options, and drivers. eVGA has also included a copy of Far Cry as well, at no extra cost, which is a good value as this is one game you'll want to be playing if you aren't already. What can you expect for the performance of a graphics card like this? Below are a couple of benchmarks for you to look over that just tell you the average, maximum, and minimum framerates for each run. If you would like more detailed data for even more benchmarks, view our detailed review for more.
While there is some give and take from both NVIDIA and ATI on these benchmarks, the 6800 GT and X800 Pro are proving to be very competitve graphics cards. For the money, the eVGA e-GeForce 6800 GT is one heck of a video card. It offers a great value, especially when you look at the overclocking potential of the chip (in more detail in the expert review), and great performance for your next video card upgrade. And with the release of Doom3 right around the corner, I am betting you are giong to need that extra power! |
