The PC Perspective Podcast is your weekly stop for the latest PC tech news and reviews! Give it a listen!
SummaryThe following is a summary of the more detailed analysis of the Cooler Master Cosmos 1000 case. For all the in-depth analysis and testing you'd expect from us, be sure to click this link to get all the details!
Cooler Master has a good name in the world of PC enclosures with past success stories like the Stacker and even the WaveMaster. The quality of these cases was always top notch, though the time between really great case designers has been longer than Cooler Master wanted. The new Cosmos 1000 that we are reviewing today originally started as an upgrade to the Stacker series of cases but soon developed into a very different beast.
The majority of the outside of the case is made of aluminum and is of the brushed variety. The black areas along the top are flat plastic black while the front and top connections area is plastic with a faux-piano finish. You can see that the mirroring affect is pretty apparent on the front door, for example.
The other door on the hardware mounted side of the case is made of the same brushed aluminum material. The power supply mount is at the bottom of the case; a trend that has been steadily increasing over the past couple of years.
Removing the access side door shows us the inside of the Cosmos 1000 for the first time. There are numerous interesting design points here including the duct work in the middle. Also notice the paper guide on the back plane there for easily finding out which holes you'll need to use when installing your motherboard stand-offs. Conclusions Reviewing computer enclosures is always a mix of two parts personal preference, one part design and one part performance. Cases are generally seen as being all the same but that obviously isn't the case. But it's also obvious that the case enclosure isn't as important to your system as say, your processor or motherboard selection. If personal preference is important anywhere and relied on during the build of your new PC, the case is the place to put some style in; and the Cooler Master Cosmos 1000 will do just that with a side of good design along with it.
